Throwing out a global GAA clubs challenge in support of Fréa

A chairde,

On behalf of John Mitchels GAA Club Liverpool, I would like to invite your club to join us for a global ‘Battle of the GAA Clubs’ challenge to support Fréa (*) charities. Fréa brings together three independent long-established Irish charities in the North of England with shared values and experience: Irish Community Care (based in Liverpool and serving the Northwest), Irish Community Care Manchester, and Leeds Irish Health and Homes. The work of the three charities focuses on caring for the vulnerable Irish of all ages in the North of England offering welfare, housing, and mental health support www.frea.org.uk. Fréa empowers these charities to become more proactive, resilient, and self-sustaining.

(*)Fréa is from the Irish word ‘fréamh’ meaning ‘root’ and reflects how as charities we are anchored and strengthened by our shared heritage, which, through careful cultivation and ambitious growth, enables us to flourish.

Date:
Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 June 2021
Award:
The winning GAA Club will receive the Annual Battle of the GAA Club Challenge Plaque in support of Fréa
Objective:
The objective is to see which club team can run, walk, cycle the furthest in 48 hours!

Measurement:

Each Club to nominate a volunteer who will store distances and total them up at the end of the weekend. Please send the final score to Patrick Murphy, John Mitchels GAA Club in Liverpool paddyharps80@gmail.com by 6.00 pm, Monday 28 June 2021, who will announce the winning club once all the scores are submitted.

We would greatly appreciate it if clubs would ask for donations from members, and their families/ friends to go to the Fréa partner charities to offer mental health support to people of Irish heritage in the North of England, which is particularly urgent due to the challenges of the pandemic. Please donate stating your club to https://tinyurl.com/FreaDonation (you do not require a PayPal account to donate).

I would appreciate it if you could please just send me a quick email to let me know if you are taking part. I will look forward to hearing from you, and really hope you will join our inaugural ‘Battle of the GAA Clubs’ Annual Challenge.

Thank you for your support in advance for helping to care for the most vulnerable in our community.

Yours sincerely,

Paddy.

Patrick Murphy
