Leeds Irish Health and Homes is working hard to make sure our service users stay warm and well hydrated this winter.
Did you know that about 350 people die in Leeds each year due to cold weather illness and excess winter death ?
We are part of Leeds’ Winter Wellbeing scheme. Our staff and volunteers have been trained to help people follow the simple paths to Winter Wellbeing :
- Drink at least 6 times a day – hot drinks are especially important
- Keep your home warm – at least 18 degrees
- Eat healthy hot food
- Have your flu jab
- Keep connected to the outside world – phone calls, visits , social clubs .
We have been awarded some money from Leeds City council to provide volunteer befrienders to visit more isolated people who can’t get out over the winter.
We can also provide support for people to attend our lunch clubs and other events through the winter months, for people who couldn’t otherwise attend. Taxis and volunteer drivers can be arranged.
So, if you know of anyone who might benefit from this service, please ring
