“Our housing service provides accommodation to single individuals who have support needs. What we offer is a friendly face with an organisation that genuinely cares about your needs. We’ll tailor our support to suit you. A support worker will be there when you need a little extra help in life. You can call us if there is a repair to sort out, a bill that you think is too high or you need someone to help with phone calls and forms. We’re here to help.” Karen Mallon, Team Leader, Housing Services
What type of Housing does LIHH provide?
We work with Leeds City Council and a number of Housing Associations in Leeds to provide flats for single people who wish to be supported by an Irish organisation.
How do I know if I’m eligible for a tenancy with LIHH?
The criteria is straightforward. You must be single, have support needs and be able to live independently with support. If you’re unsure if you meet this criteria please contact us and we’ll answer any questions you have.
What does the support worker do?
Your Support Worker will help you to settle into your flat and help you with areas of your life which may be difficult for you to deal with. Examples would be budgeting, social isolation, mental health or alcohol problems. Your Support Worker will work with you, put a support plan in place and help you maintain your home and your independence.
What kind of support can I expect to receive?
When you accept a tenancy with us it will be a condition to receive ongoing support. This will include a regular visit from a Support Worker who will put a support plan in place that matches your needs. These are some of the issues we can help you with:
- Developing independent living skills
- Helping with budgeting
- Form filling
- Accessing help from other agencies
- Making sure you are claiming the right benefits
- General help with your health and well being
- Getting involved with social activities
- Arranging/attending medical appointments
How long does the support last?
We will support you until you feel ready to move on from our support. As you become more independent we will tailor that support to suit your needs. Your support plan reviews should identify when you will be ready to start the process of planning to move on from our support. Your support worker will discuss the options available to you and support you during this transition.
Can I still get support from LIHH even if I’m not a tenant?
Yes. If you decide you no longer need housing support but still wish to keep contact, you could still get support from our Outreach Service. You are also welcome to attend the various social and support groups that we offer. Click on Outreach Support to find out more about this service.
How do I get referred for Housing Support?
Anyone who wants advice or support can refer themselves to us. Alternatively a relative or a professional such as a GP or Social Worker can refer clients. You can make the referral by calling us on 0113 262 5614 or click here to go to our Referrals page.
