A fáilte an hearth – ‘A welcome by the Hearth’
Posted on March 8, 2019
With funding from Leeds City Council we have been providing Winter Wellbeing to the vulnerable during the winter months for a few years now and this year’s scheme has been the most successful yet!
The scheme aims to promote wellbeing to the vulnerable during the cold and often isolating winter months and we have provided befriender delivered home-cooked meals to many people since the inception of the scheme in January.
Many have benefited from the scheme in so many different ways with often the social interaction of a befriender volunteer arriving at an elderly person’s door often being the only social interaction that person would have all day and often all week.
To shine a spotlight on the work this scheme provides Leeds City Council has produced a series of 8 two minute videos, short, snappy key messages aimed at reducing lonliness and excess winter deaths in vulnerable people in our City. The videos will be shown at GP surgeries and Leeds City Council venues throughout the city.
Watch the video at the right which showcases the great work our staff and volunteers do at the Lunch Club and on the Winter Wellbeing hot meal delivery service.
