Aran Home Support
Aran Home Support is a service dedicated to providing specialised support to people living with dementia and memory loss, and their families. The service is best suited to those who are in the early stages of mild to moderate dementia.
What we can help you with
We provide much needed emotional support, information, guidance and advice to families; help reduce isolation and loneliness through befriending and companionship; use reminiscence therapy to improve general well being; and provide a wide variety of practical help including going for walks, food shopping, social outings, light housekeeping and meal preparation.
How the service works
We offer a free assessment visit which takes place at your home and where we will talk through how Aran can support you. Once you decide to go ahead, we will agree a Support Plan with you and review this regularly. We have an open, pragmatic, flexible approach to our work.
The service is available from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Visits are for a minimum of two hours to begin with and we recommend that these take place weekly for a trial period of around three weeks. Once matched, our Home Worker will support you for as long as is practicable. Our staff are caring, competent, of impeccable character, fully DBS checked, and have first-hand experience of caring for someone with dementia, and/or professional experience. All are trained in Person-Centred Dementia Awareness and Reminiscence Therapy.
How to get the service
We work closely with the Memory Services in Leeds and you may find your Occupational Therapist, Memory Support Worker, or Memory Nurse has recommended us. However, you don’t have to wait to be referred by a professional.
Please ring our main office number 0113 262 5614 where a member of staff will take your referral. Alternatively, for an informal chat, please ask to speak with Paula Cox, Dementia Services Manager or you can reach her on 07904 246 531. You can also send an email to info@lihh.org.
How to pay for the service
We charge an hourly rate of £15 and are Not for Profit. We generally ask that you set up a Standing Order and this can be on a monthly or weekly basis. You can pay for this service using your Attendance Allowance, from private funds, or if you have had an Adult Social Care Assessment they may assist you with accessing Direct Payments.
